Google Core Web Vitals measure the experience people actually have

Google Core Web Vitals are metrics for key parts of the user experience. They assess how quickly the most important visible content appears, how promptly a page responds to input and whether elements shift unexpectedly while the page is loading.

Where enough data is available, Google uses real-world usage data from the Chrome User Experience Report. The result therefore depends on more than a single laboratory test. It reflects how the website performs across different devices, connections and everyday situations.

LCP, INP and CLS make those experiences comparable, but they do not automatically identify the technical cause. We therefore connect the metrics with a detailed review of images, scripts, fonts, server response, layout and WordPress configuration.

Three metrics that reveal tangible problems

LCP, INP and CLS turn loading speed, responsiveness and visual stability into comparable metrics. For a good assessment, at least 75 percent of measured visits should meet the recommended thresholds.

LCP: content within 2.5 seconds

Largest Contentful Paint shows when the largest visible element has loaded. Hero images, server response and blocking resources often delay this moment.

INP: response within 200 milliseconds

Interaction to Next Paint evaluates how quickly the page reacts to clicks, input and touch gestures. Heavy JavaScript is a frequent bottleneck.

CLS: Barely noticeable layout shifts

Cumulative Layout Shift is a unitless score for unexpected movement. A score of 0.1 or less is considered good. Defined image sizes, well-loaded fonts and stable content areas keep the layout calm.

Why are fast loading times so important?

Fast websites feel more professional and help visitors reach the information or action they need without unnecessary waiting. Good Core Web Vitals also support a strong experience in Google Search, but they do not guarantee a particular ranking.

Can every WordPress website become faster?

Usually yes. The level of improvement depends on hosting, theme, plugins, images, tracking, database and technical structure.

Is a caching plugin enough?

Caching helps, but it does not solve everything. Large images, unnecessary scripts, poor server responses, too many plugins or unstable layouts need separate attention.

Do plugins have to be deleted?

Not automatically. What matters is which plugins are truly needed, which files they load and whether leaner solutions exist.

What about WooCommerce shops?
